Description
Porsche 904 (English and German Edition) is a hardcover book about the Stuttgart car manufacturer’s stylish groundbreaking model that has practically achieved cult-like status in the automotive world.
Porsche 904 the book consists of text by Jürgen Lewandowski and photos by Stefan Bogner, two respected figures in the automotive world.
Their work covers the 904 model, which was developed as Porsche’s next race car to succeed the 550, 645 and 718. It was designed by Ferdinand Alexander “Butzi” Porsche, son of Ferry and Dorothea Porsche, and grandson of Professor Ferdinand and Aloisia Porsche.
The car came to be known as Butzi’s masterpiece. It was Porsche’s first automobile made of a non-metallic body. In fact, Butzi designed its fiberglass body himself.
From drawing board to manufacture, the 904 materialized in record time, produced by Porsche between 1964 and 1965.
Originally dubbed internally by Porsche as the 904, it also became known as the “Carrera GTS” because of Peugeot’s bellyaching over the “0” in Porsche’s original “901,” as the iconic Porsche 911 was originally christened.
Because of racing homologation regulations, Porsche was obliged to produce 100 street cars initially for private owners — and, to use that ol’ cliché, the rest is history.
Documenting “Butzi’s masterpiece,” this hardcover makes for an excellent coffee table book to show off in your home or office, worthy of your pride in the marque of Porsche.
