In mostly wet track conditions, Porsche earns 18th Le Mans pole with the No. 2 Porsche 919 HybridBoth qualifying sessions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans were run on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Swiss driver Neel Jani held on to his best time of 3:19.733 minutes, surpassing all of this year’s field of 60 cars.  He accomplished this during the Wednesday evening session on the 8.47-mile-long circuit.  However, this wasn’t his best time at Le Mans:  He achieved a qualifying record lap time of 3:16.887 minutes in 2015.

Porsche went on to lock up the first row for this 84th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, here in 2016.  This is thanks to current reigning World Champion Timo Bernhard (DE) garnering a second-best lap time of 3:20.203 minutes.  This is the 15th occasion in history for Porsche to accomplish a one-two first-row lockout in Le Mans qualifying.

So, Jani, Romain Dumas (FR) and Marc Lieb (DE) hold first place in the No. 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid, and Bernhard, Brendon Hartley (NZ) and Mark Webber (AU) occupy second place in the No. 1 919 Hybrid sister LMPI Porsche Prototype.
