December 2018 Porsche USA sales of 4,086 units nudged Porsche retailing over the top to an annual record of 57,202 Porsche automobiles sold in 2018.  Porsche Cars North America, Inc., (PCNA) just announced these notable numbers — which amount to a tidy uptick of 3.2 percent.

This rise breaks the previous record of 55,420 cars set in 2017, the seventh annual sales record in a row.  Overall, this translates into the ninth consecutive year of growth for Porsche’s USA importer and distributor to dealerships all across the country.

“Porsche and our 190 independent U.S. dealer partners are grateful for the excitement our cars are generating among customers,” asserted Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of PCNA.

Here is the distribution of the various models in 2018 annual sales:

  • Macan — Porsche’s smaller SUV was leader of the pack, as usual of late, garnering over 23,500 deliveries throughout the year
  • Panamera — now in its second year as a new-generation model, Porsche’s 4-door sports car generated sales of 8,042 units, translating to double-digit annual growth at 19.5 percent
  • 911 — the timeless Porsche icon came on strong at a growth rate of 7.55 percent, with 9,647 units in sales, supplemented by enthusiastic demand for its GT variants
  • Cayenne — despite flagging sales year-over-year, Porsche’s larger SUV showed off tremendous legs in December 2018, posting growth of over 47 percent.  Said growth was fueled by the S and Turbo variants coming on line for the first time in the model year

Mr. Zellmer continued:  “A record 2018 is an excellent starting point for an even more dynamic 2019, when highlights will include the market entry of the next-generation 911, the updated Macan, and the launch of our first all-electric sports car, the Taycan, late in the year.”

Porsche also enjoyed USA sales of Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles of 2,278 units in December, an increase of 5.9 percent year-over-year.   For all of 2018, CPO sales were up 20.7 percent with 23,046 deliveries.
